Here’s the thing nobody tells you about Pembrokeshire: the sea is at its warmest of the year in September – warmer than June – and the moment the schools go back, the beaches empty. The light drops lower and turns gold, the water goes glass-clear, and the coastline that was queued for in August is suddenly yours.
Autumn coasteering
The one where you’re properly in it: swimming through caves and lagoons, scrambling the rocks, jumps if you want them (never if you don’t) at Lydstep, Tenby and Stackpole. All kit provided – winter-spec wetsuit, helmet, buoyancy aid – ages 8+, £45 under-18s / £55 adults. In October we run morning sessions to make the most of the daylight.
Autumn sea kayaking
September is the best-kept secret of the paddling year: warm sea, no boat traffic, and the caves and coves to yourselves in low, golden light. Trips run right through October, and weekend trips carry on into November, weather permitting – the quietest paddling of the year.
Ironman weekend (11-13 September)
Tenby fills for Ironman Wales on Sunday 13th. Supporting someone? Friday and Saturday are your days to get in the sea they’re about to swim in – all kit included, back in town by lunch.
October half-term (26-30 October)
Family coasteering every morning of half-term week – our final full week of the season. Half-term sessions and prices →
When does the season end?
Coasteering’s last session of 2026 is Sunday 1 November. Kayak weekends carry on into November while the weather allows. Then we’re back in April.
Autumn FAQ
Is the sea cold in autumn?
Warmer than you’d guess – the sea off this coast peaks in September and holds its warmth well into October, and you’re in a full winter-spec wetsuit anyway.
What do I wear?
Swimwear under the wetsuit we give you, old trainers you don’t mind soaking, and a warm layer plus a towel for afterwards.
Do sessions run in the rain?
Yes – you’re wet either way. It’s the sea state that decides: we watch wind and swell, make the call the day before, and offer a switch or full refund if the sea says no.
